Painting coastal light
Why does light change so quickly on the coast, and how can a painting capture it?
On the coast, light moves constantly between water and sky. The same place can look silver in the early morning and pink by evening.
Rather than depict a specific place, I like to look for the feeling of that transition. So I soften edges and let colours blend into one another.
In my studio a painting is more often born from a memory than from a photograph.
